Belarusian Dumplings (Pelmeni)

This recipe of dumplings is popular in East Europe. Each cuisine has an own recipe for this popular meal.


  • forcemeat (450 gram) 1 lb.
  • onion, finely chopped (optional) 14 pcs.
  • flour (450 gram) 1 lb.
  • eggs 2 pcs.
  • bay leaf 1 pcs.
  • salt and black pepper, to taste
  • sour cream or butter (optional)

Mix forcemeat, finely chopped onion, salt, black pepper, spices.

Sift flour into a large bowl. Separately mix egg, salt, and a little bit water. The resulting mixture gradually, stirring, pour in the flour. Knead the dough until smooth and homogeneous.

On the floured work surface roll out the dough into a layer 0.5 inch (1 cm) thick, cut it into circles using a glass. In the middle put the stuffing.

Pinch the edges of dumplings with wet hands. Continue to make the dumplings until the end the dough or stuffing.

Boil water in a saucepan. Add salt, bay leaf, spices, dumplings and cook about 5-10 minutes until the dumplings float up. Serve with butter or sour cream. Optional garnish with greens. Enjoy your meal!!!
