Plum Pie (Plum Torte)

Delicious plum pie!!! This recipe was printed in the "New York Times" annually between 1983 and 1995 at the request of American housewives. Some amount of ingredients changed during the time, like the amount of sugar.


  • sugar 34 cup
  • butter, softened (113 gram) 4 oz.
  • flour 1 cup
  • baking powder 1 tsp.
  • eggs 2 pcs.
  • pinch of salt
  • halves pitted purple plums (or plum jam) 24 pcs.
  • cinnamon, for topping 1 tsp.
  • sugar, for topping 2 tbsp.

Step 1
Heat oven to 350°F (180°C). Whisk sugar and butter in a bowl. Add salt and eggs and whisk again.

Add flour and baking powder; mix well.

Sprinkle lightly with butter the baking form and place dough.

Cover the dough with plum halves skin side up on top but, instead, you can use plum jam. Sprinkle with mixture of sugar and cinnamon, depending on how much you like cinnamon or sugar. Bake 1 hour, approximately. Enjoy your meal!!!
