Hot Dogs with Beer Braised Sauerkraut

German style hot dogs with beer & sauerkraut. It is a delicious and flavorful dish which perfect for party appetizers or as the main dish.


  • sauerkraut, rinsed, drained 2 cups
  • dark beer (such as porter) 12 cup
  • dark brown sugar, to taste 1 tbsp.
  • hot dog buns 4 pcs.
  • hot dogs, sausages or brat 4 pcs.
  • mustard, optionally


  1. Simmer sauerkraut, beer, sugar uncovered in a medium pot for about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add hot dogs and cook covered about 5-8 minutes. Lightly toast the hot dog buns in the oven or transfer the buns to grill for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Put hot dog and sauerkraut mix in a bun. Drizzle with beer syrup. Serve hot with mustard. Enjoy your meal!!!
