6 to 9 months

In this section, you can find different recipes first meal, solid food and finger food for an infant.

Complementary feeding is a feeding of infants products and liquids in addition to breast milk or infant formula. First of all, children need to introduce complementary feeding and only then you can give the meal from the family table. Infants are physically able to consume foods from the family table to the age of 1 year.

Complementary feeding is recommended after 6 months. Under 6 months is recommended only breast milk or infant formula for babies. Sometimes the feeding of the infants begins from 3-4 months. What is the risk of too early complementary feeding? An immature child's body still does not produce sufficient enzymes to help to digest "adult" food, because of this it is absorbed poorly and increases the risk of malnutrition  and allergies. It is very important to organize proper nutrition the baby from the first days of life. Although recommendations of pediatricians are the same in different countries, but national traditions and climate bring about changes in the baby food and feeding up. For a long period of time have changed the views on the first food of baby in each country and over the world. In different countries and, of course, every mother is feeding her baby one's own way, but despite it, there are the recommendations that are quite consistent with the views of the majority of experienced mothers. Food should contain proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, and, of course, water in the required quantities. Meals should be rational, which means completely cover all the energy of the body, and especially for the children to provide their growth and development. Meals should be varied and balanced in all components for both physiologically healthy person. Rational nutrition is one of the main components of a healthy lifestyle. Introducing complementary feeding should begin with low doses, enough to give a teaspoon with a new dish, and gradually increase the portion of complementary foods up to a day feeding. To wash down the food baby needs mother's milk. So it will be faster and easier to digest. Recall one of the two main objectives of feeding: to provide an additional amount of energy to the kid. And because it is still small ventricle when the energy value is lower than a breast milk, the breast milk will be displaced by complementary foods and consequently  the baby will lose energy and nutrients. If we talk about advantage, then after 6 months, the child does not have enough iron and zinc. Therefore, as a first feeding baby recommended cereal and vegetables in which the iron and zinc are easy enough digestible form. If a child is not gaining weight or has diarrhea - it is better to start with porridge, but if the baby has often constipation, you should start from vegetables. The second complementary feeding is vegetables or porridge, the third is the meat, and then all the rest. The second feedings inserted in parallel with the first 2-4 weeks later. You should start primarily from fruits and vegetables of the seasonal period and its latitude, avoiding exotic. As a rule, the first vegetables are zucchini, cauliflower, carrots. Someone is more convenient to use the factory pureeing, but it is necessary to be prepared for the fact that the first complementary feeding should give a teaspoonful and the rest will have to eat the mother. One simply adds the vegetables in the diet of the whole family, in this case for the preparation of vegetables is good to use a steamer: the food is prepared quickly, and vitamins are preserved in greater numbers. Prepared vegetables can chop the blender for an infant. Cereal, from which begins the first complementary feeding, should be hypoallergenic as rice, buckwheat, and corn, which do not contain gluten (vegetable protein), often cause allergic reactions. And you should always remember that no single product can provide the body with all the nutrients. For example, potatoes provide vitamin C, but not iron, while bread and beans provide iron but not vitamin C. The value of breast milk and even formula all of the first year is significantly higher than any other product, so do not take the time to exchange a portion of mother's milk to the carrot or an apple! As for the drink, the need for it arises only when the baby is already receiving significant portions of foods. In parallel with the introduction of complementary feeding, the mother can offer the baby some water from a cup, but if baby refuses - no need to insist.
